These recommendations are intended for youth workers, sports professionals, event organizers, as well as families themselves and the general public. They represent a powerful tool through which we can positively influence the engagement in physical activities and sports within the broader community. The recommendations offer the adaptation of activities based on the diverse physical abilities of individuals, catering to both older and younger family members.
The purpose of the Recommendations is to encourage physical activities and sports participation for entire families, from the youngest to the oldest members, and assist families in choosing activities based on their abilities.
You can find more information about the project on our website.
Recently, we successfully conducted the Green Sports Day event in collaboration with sport club Sele-Vrhe, which brought together members of the local recreational club for an active gathering in nature. We delved into the natural element of air through various sports activities.
Ten participants competed in beach volleyball, badminton, tennis, soccer, and archery. The Green Sports Day also provided an opportunity for intergenerational learning, reflection, and collaboration among all participants. The sports activities took place in a small sports center by the lake, surrounded by forest, enhancing the participants’ connection with nature.
Discussions about nature, environmental impact, the “leave no trace” principle, and other environmental challenges added an educational aspect to our event. Participants showed interest in environmental education, outdoor ethics, and the role they play in encouraging others to engage in outdoor sports and environmental conservation.
We thank all participants for an inspiring day in nature, which strengthened their connection with the environment and emphasized the importance of a healthy lifestyle and environmental preservation for future generations.
This time, as part of the EURIDE project, we headed to a race in France. Four students from Ravne High School raced with the “King Matjaž’s Chariot” – a pedal car they have already built for the previous race in Holice, Czech Republic.
This time, the first race took place on Saturday, September 23rd in Ornans, and the second one on Sunday, September 24th in Valentigney. Both races were part of the European championship, and in addition to the French, Italians, Czechs, and Slovenians also participated. Ornans had a total of 30 teams competing, while Valentigney had two less. Congratulations to all the French participants who ended up on the podium, which was not surprising since pedal car racing is recognized as a sport in France, and the racers are often skilled cyclists.
We are thrilled to have the opportunity to be part of the EURIDE project, whose main goal is to expand activities related to pedal cars, strengthen organizations already involved in these activities, and, through organizing races, show people, especially the youth, that pedal car racing is a fun and healthy activity that offers new skills and the opportunity to connect with people across Europe.
Within the EURIDE project, we have one more race ahead, scheduled for April 20, 2024, at Vista Park near Lake Velenje. This will be the first pedal car race in Slovenia, and the APGA Institute is excited to organize this opening event. We look forward to your visit!
Would you like to build your own pedal car and participate in the race in Velenje? Contact us at zavodapga@gmail.com, and we will provide you with plans and instructions for making a pedal car.
In September, we teamed up with the Sele-Vrhe sports club to host the successful “Clean Air Hike” event, which brought together hiking enthusiasts, nature lovers, and advocates of a sustainable lifestyle. The goal of the event was to raise awareness about air pollution and promote eco-friendly practices through a hiking experience.
Sustainable Hiking: We arranged a guided hike with a focus on minimal pollution and sustainable practices. The event was open to all generations, including families.
Learning and Discussion: In addition to enjoying the beautiful scenery, participants received information about air pollution, low-impact hiking practices, and the importance of environmental conservation. Discussions followed on staying on marked trails, reducing noise pollution, and proper waste disposal.
Responsible Hiking: We emphasized the importance of responsible interaction with nature and the environment. Participants were encouraged to adopt the principle of “leave no trace,” highlighting the significance of responsible hiking.
Inspiration for Sustainable Choices: The event served as inspiration for sustainable habits. Participants reflected on their carbon footprint, noise pollution impact, and preserving natural habitats. Based on the event’s encouragement, participants could make sustainable decisions for their everyday lives.
The “Clean Air Hike” was more than just a hike; it was a step towards awareness, responsibility, and sustainable living. By combining natural beauty with a sustainable message, we created an unforgettable experience that will surely leave a lasting impression on the hearts of all participants.
On Wednesday, September 6th, we embarked on a trip to Kope by bus, where we engaged in a game of Frisbee Golf. Thirty people participated in the outing. In addition to the sporting activity, we also took the opportunity to pick up litter and clean the environment during our walk. The Green League project, within which this activity took place, is focused on raising public awareness about climate change and the preservation of the environment and nature.
Upon completing the activity, we engaged in a discussion about the connection between sports and the environment, as well as ways to maintain the cleanliness of nature and contribute to environmental conservation. Many people do not realize that sports, too, can have a negative impact on the environment. For instance, golf requires well-maintained grass, which necessitates a substantial amount of water for irrigation. This is just one example, but certainly not the only one. However, through the game of Frisbee Golf, we left no harm to nature, but instead, we brought back litter and cherished memories.
